Monday Night Aero Update

14winsdarltjwintx

Since this reporter has been able to return to his typewriter, the Warriors of the Monday Night Aero Thunder Series have run two races at two very different tracks.
The first race, on the 15th, took place at NASCAR’s original superspeedway, Darlington. The Lady in black has crushed the dreams of many in its 60+ years. That night was no different. When the white flag flew, the 10 of OGR Ellie and the 17 of pole sitter, -ECT-REDCHEVY were door to door going into turn 1. The 17 on the bottom made slight contact to the 10’s rear quarter, and their race for the checkers was over. The seas parted, and it was the car waiting in third place, -ECT-BSchilling, that squirted out from between them to the lead, and the victory. OGR Ellie and -ECT-REDCHEVY held on to second and third respectively, while it was -ECT-TJ and -ECT-W Quack rounding out the Top 5.
Last Monday, the Warriors headed to the Republic of Texas, and Texas Motor Speedway. The 1.5 mile quad-oval was ready. -ECT-REDCHEVY took his second straight pole with a timed lap of 30.061 seconds. When the green flag flew, the largest non-superspeedway race in recent Aero Thunder history was on the track. Cautions came out 14 times during the race, the last one ending the race. Following the pace car across the checkers were: -ECT-TJ, -ECT-BSchilling, -ECT-FredM, -ECT-W Quack, and -ECT_FSIESEL95 in the Top 5.
The series has only two races remaining, this Monday at Richmond, and the finale’ at Talladega. At this point, the points battle between the top four drivers is pretty tight, and anyone could still win the title. Up by 13 points, its -ECT-TJ over -ECT-BSchilling. Third is a tie one point back between -ECT-W Quack and Ken Hayes of FTRL. Fifth through ninth wont be decided either till the checkers fall at Tally. ECT – DaBandit holds a 5 point lead over -ECT-Chevyman and -ECT-REDCHEVY for fifth, -ECT-Mike Scott trails them by 3, with Ralph Howard in ninth 1 point behind Scott.
The next two Monday’s, the series will follow the Weekend Series’ and run Richmond and Talladega.

Warriors of Monday Night Aero Thunder Invade the Brickyard

tjwinindyDateline: Speedway, IN

A large field awaited the opening of the gates at the Brickyard Monday, as the Warriors of the Monday Night Aero Thunder Series hit the bricks. Qualifying went smoothly as 18 drivers lined up to take a stab at the pole, when the dust settled, it was -ECT-MikeScott taking the pole with a lap of 52.873 seconds.
The field made its parade lap, then rumbled into the first turn, and onto the short-chute, and the race was on. Five laps into the 56 lap event, the pole sitter’s car sat in the garage, not to return. Eleven drivers led at least a lap, with -ECT-BSchilling leading the most at 26. When the checkers droppedat the completion of lap 56, the winner, -ECT-TJ had led only three laps, one of them, the most important…the last one. The rest of the Top 5 were: -ECT-BSchilling, -ECT-FDIESEL95, -ECT-REDCHEVY, and -ECT-Spoiler41. Spoiler gained the most spots of the race at 12, and the pole sitter, Mike Scott lost the most at 17.
Next week the series visits the “Lady in Black”, Darlington. Gates open for practice at 7:30p eastern, with qualifying an hour later.

Penalties and Cautions Abound at Hotlanta

kenwinatlDateline: Atlanta, GA

The pack of drivers waiting for the gates to open at Atlanta was large, the largest non-plate track crowd to date. In the preliminaries, no one driver showed any signs of dominating the 1.5 mile quad-oval. Lin Voiles took the pole with a lap of 179.464 mph.
The green flag fell and 20 drivers sailed their rides into turn one. Lap 10 saw the first of 15 flags put the field behind the pace car. The races speed was dropped to 103.477 mph with the field spending 45 of 114 laps under caution. During the green flag segments, their was some great side-by-side racing, and a couple of awesome saves that didn’t cause any yellows. At the end of lap 114, it was a race back to the yellow and checkers as the number 60 of Ken Hayes edged out -ECT-REDCHEVY by .22 seconds. The end of the race was marred by a couple penalties related to the last yellow and restart.
The rest of the Top 5 were: -ECT-BSchilling, -ECT-TJ, and -ECT-Jim. The Warriors will take off a week for Easter, and will return to action on the 8th at Indy.

Short Trackers Continue Roll

Windrow 88 WinMartinsville, VA – Last night the Warriors of the Monday Night Aerowars Thunder Series took to Martinsville Speedway. Once again for the third week in a row a “short track ringer” would show up and join the field. This time it would be the #12 of Jim Windrow who after a win early in the season was able to secure a sponsorship on his car that was for sale and will continue to compete on a limited schedule for the rest of the season. In the first practice it would be -ECT-TJ showing the way! The #51 would also be shown on top of qualifying and final practice. This was TJ’s 6th pole of the season and 5th in a row. The race would get off to a fast pace and TJ would show the way. There were some fierce battles all of the track and a few tangles along the way. The race would be slowed by 19 cautions for 93 laps in the 175 lap event. In the closing laps Windrow would take the lead with around 40 laps to go and hold off a charge from the #14 of Brain Schilling and then in the closing laps hold off -ECT-TJ and nail down his 2nd victory of the season. Join the aerowars thunder series next week as they tackle the challenging Atlanta Motor Speedway in a battle under the lights!!
